3 Things To Do With Your Fireplace in Summer

The winter months are the perfect time to use your fireplace. A fire burning in the fireplace adds to the magic of the day when gathering for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And nothing can beat an evening curled up by the fire with hot chocolate or warm cider. But what about during the summer months? Just because it’s warm outside doesn’t mean your fireplace has to have an off-season. Use these tips for three things to do with your fireplace in summer.

Maintenance and Cleaning for Your Fireplace in Summer

At the end of the winter months, wood-burning fireplaces can have a lot of soot, ashes, and buildup in the chimney. While you take a break from lighting fires in your fireplace, use the summer to take care of maintenance.

Start with a chimney sweep to properly clean your chimney and fireplace as well as inspect its condition. The professionals will be able to spot any items in need of repair to ensure your next burning season is a safe one. The plus side of doing this in the summer is that it should be easier to get an appointment. Most others will wait until the temperature cools down in autumn, but your fireplace will be in perfect condition and ready to go!

Firewood Storage

If you have plenty of leftover firewood at the end of the burning season, turn your wood-burning fireplace into storage. Bring in the chopped wood and stack it inside the empty fireplace with the ends facing out into the room. You’ll keep your firewood dry, out of the way, and it doubles as a bit of decor!

Decorate

A fireplace is always a focal point in a room, but especially around the holidays. From autumn leaves to evergreen garland, the fireplace mantel offers a reflection of the current season.

Keep your Kozy Heat electric fireplace the main focus during summer months by decorating it for the season as well. For holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, choose a patriotic or Americana type theme for your fireplace mantel. If you’d rather not center the decor around a holiday, choose summer elements for your fireplace like nautical features or your favorite summer flowers.

For wood-burning fireplaces, you can even decorate the interior of the fireplace. Replace firewood with candles to get all of the ambiance without the heat of a fire. You can choose regular candles or LED versions for a truly hassle-free feature. Candles can be set directly into the fireplace box or you can place them on a decorative candelabra for an elegant look. Your fireplace will have the same elegant glow in summertime as it does in winter, minus the heat!

A fireplace is a gorgeous addition to any home, but using it shouldn’t be limited to cold winter months.
