Our Expert Guide to Swim Spa Water Care

Have you made the exhilarating choice to purchase a swim spa of your very own to help you achieve all of your health and wellness goals this year? If so, the idea of maintaining a swim spa water care routine might feel overwhelming, but IHT is here to make sure it isn’t. You will be an expert at caring for your swim spa’s water in no time!

Test the water once per week to stay on top of your swim spa water care.

The most significant part of staying on top of swim spa water care is regularly testing the water in the spa. At least once per week, you should use a quality test strip or professional testing kit to check the chemistry of your water. You can get these things from our online store any time you need them.

You will need to dip the strip into the water and then compare it to the chart included. This will tell you which chemicals you need to add to the water. Not all test strips work for every water care program. Ask your IHT professional which is the test strip you need to get the job done. You can keep commonly used things like chlorine, shock, and pH adjusters on hand. Again, all of these things are available in our online store. You can order to keep stock and know you have quality products when you need them.

Clean the filters and cover once per month to stay on top of your swim spa water care.

The next step to remember only happens once per month! Every month or so, you will want to remove your filters and soak them in cleaner. If they don’t look too bad, you can simply spray them off with a water hose to remove loose dirt and debris.

While your filter is soaking, take the time to use a mild cleaning solution to wipe down the swim spa cover. This will keep mildew and mold from forming and building up. It will also help to keep down on any smells and keep your swim spa water care routine less complicated.

Wipe down the shell, then drain and fill the swim spa once every three to four months.

Finally, the last step to remember only happens once every three to four months. At these intervals, you will drain your swim spa water to allow you to start over fresh. The water can become extra grimy and complex to care for if left unattended. Saltwater hot tubs might be able to have the same water for up to one year.

While the water is drained from the swim spa, use the opportunity to clean the inside and outside of the shell. Focus on any ring that may form where the water line is and in and around the jets. This should keep most problems at bay.

Once everything is wiped down, you can refill the water and head back to your weekly swim spa water care routine. Keeping on top of these basic swim spa water care steps will save you time and money in the long term.

IHT experts know that while water care can feel intimidating, it certainly doesn’t have to be. If you still have questions, reach out to our experts, and they will be able to answer any other questions you may have.
