Is that really what it’s about?

Best Buy’s “Win the Holidays” theme…Shouldn’t it be about something more?

As I have been getting ready for the holidays…in my case, Christmas, and being in marketing, I couldn’t help but notice all the Best Buy commercials bragging about “Winning the Holidays”. It implies that by shopping there you win and everyone who does not shop there loses. While I am very proud of our hot tub and fireplace product line at IHT, I think they missed the point. Don’t get me wrong, I like Best Buy and I shop there, but…can everyone be a winner during the Holidays?

I don’t believe the holiday’s are about winning which implies that someone else has to be losing.  I believe they are about…

  • Celebrating one’s religious beliefs, whatever they may be,
  • Celebrating Family and time with loved ones,
  • Providing for and lifting up others,
  • Getting together with friends, enjoying their company and making new friends,

I know it’s just marketing, and I did remember it, which is often the point.  I’m just not sure I want to buy into their premise that it’s a competition. Maybe we can all win by doing our best to help everyone around us win this year – no losers.

What about you?

We’d love to hear your plans and your thoughts.
