The Ultimate Guide to Finding Your Perfect Hot Tub

Outdoor entertaining season is just around the corner and you’ve decided to finally get that hot tub you’ve been dreaming of. It’s exciting to think of all the fun you’ll have with friends as you relax in your amazing new hot tub. But first you have some big decisions to make! There are a lot of things to think about when planning and choosing your new hot tub. If you’re not sure where to start, we’re here to help. We’ve got the ultimate guide to finding your perfect hot tub.

Size and Shape

One of the first things to think about when choosing your new hot tub is its size and shape. There are a variety to choose from, but think about what will fit your space. If you have a specific spot where you plan to put your new hot tub, your size and shape may be limited. However, if you’re building a patio specifically for a new hot tub, you have a little more flexibility in your choices.

Location

You have the picture perfect spot in your yard. But is that quiet, back corner really going to work for a hot tub? It can, if you keep these things in mind.

First of all, take a good look at the spot where you want your hot tub to sit. Sure, that spot looks great from your back porch, but what about when you’re sitting in your hot tub? When you face a certain direction will the sun be in your eyes for the majority of the evening? Or, will the view from your hot tub be straight into your neighbor’s window? Speaking of windows, look up. That corner of your yard may seem nice and secluded, but is it overlooked by your neighbor’s deck? Take into account the views from all angles so that you can pick the perfect spot for a restful, private retreat.

A hot tub must be placed on a flat, solid and level surface, such as a deck or concrete slab. If that cozy spot isn’t a flat surface, you may need to do a little prep work to get it ready. For instance, a raised wood deck must be able to handle the weight of a hot tub. If you’re going with a concrete slab, it should be at least four inches thick.

You’ll also need to be sure that the location you select will have access to power. If it’s not possible to get a power connection to that part of the yard, consider moving it to an alternate location closer to your home that will allow easier access. We can help you with a list of our preferred electricians.

Nobody likes to think about maintenance, but it’s an important factor in where you place your hot tub. Wherever you place your hot tub, ensure that there is enough space around the entire outer edge to allow for maintenance and cleaning. If you are sinking your hot tub into a vault, allow access room at the panel.

Seating

When looking at seating, it’s important to think about who will be using your hot tub on a regular basis. Are you known for slightly larger parties? If you’re prone to entertaining 8 or more people at a given party, a four-seater may leave you wanting more. You want to give each of your guests the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of your new hot tub. Are your evenings are spent with only a few close friends? A smaller option with fewer seats may work perfectly for you.

You also need to think about the type of seats. Reclining lounge seats are extremely comfortable and relaxing, but with six or more people in the hot tub, that may not be feasible for that space. If you only plan to have a few people at a time in the hot tub, those lounge seats may be ideal.

Features

When choosing your hot tub, you’ll want to think about the type and number of jets you want. With jets, many people think the more jets the better, but that isn’t necessarily the case. More jets will have an impact on how much pressure is needed, which will affect pump power. What we focus on is the type and placement of jets to maximize the hydrotherapy benefits of your hot tub.

Water features can be a fun addition to your hot tub as well. A waterfall can add to the experience as you wind down from a long day listening to the soothing sounds of the water.

Hot tub lighting is something else to consider. The right lighting in and around your hot tub can bring your night to life! You can choose to light up foot wells or massage areas and even the area surrounding the hot tub for safety.

If you’re a music lover, adding an entertainment system is the perfect choice. You can even add a high-definition wireless monitor so that you watch the big game while you relax in your new hot tub.

Pumps

Jet pressure is determined by your hot tub’s pumps. If you’re relying on your hot tub for relief from pain and muscle tension, jet pressure is key. Once you’ve determined the size of your hot tub as well as the number of jets, be sure you select a tub with pumps that will provide the right amount of pressure to get the job done.
